Vision
The vision of the project is best embodied by the year-long 10 modules new-centric curriculum devised for students.
The visualisation of the curriculum also reflects the ethos of ‘The NewsLine’ at large through its incisive and fresh approach to the pedagogy in media studies. Some facets of this pedagogical outlook are:
- Pertinent news item Picking a pertinent news item for every month of the year to base the curriculum around. Spatial and demographic diversity and impact of the news itself will be kept in mind whilst zeroing in on the twelve items.
-
Cohesive narrative
Patch together a cohesive narrative around the selected news piece: a history of the problem, geographical implications, economic and political angles will be probed to show students the interconnected nature of events in two areas:
-in the social ecosystem of the state where it occurs, therefore looking at the issue holistically instead of a purely economic, social, political, or security issue.
-in the global community where a happening in one part of the world may have severe repercussions for the rest of it. - Encouraged Once students have absorbed and pieced together the different facets of a news item, they will then be encouraged to analyse the issue in a class presentation and then state their views on it. This makes for a dynamic environment where students are engaging on a deeper level with the world around them and honing their public speaking skills to articulate their logical and lucid arguments.
